FHI Hotels join WWF's Earth Hour to change climate change

World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Earth Hour is the world’s largest grass-roots environmental movement towards action on climate change. Federal Hotels International (FHI) Group of Hotels namely The Federal Kuala Lumpur, Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur and The Grace Hotel Sydney will participate in this global event - Earth Hour to raise awareness about climate change. Since inception in 2007, now Earth Hour is more than just an action, it is becoming a movement and a platform. It allows every single person around the world to unite in taking a stand against climate change. FHI Group of Hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Sydney once again joined in the meaningful global event by turning off the lights on Saturday, 28 March 2015 from 8.30pm to 9.30pm which include the following:

  • The main building’s exterior lighting;

  • Guests are encouraged to switch off their room lights with minimal lights on;

  • There will be minimal lighting in guest corridors, hotel lobbies, restaurants, back entrance of the hotel;

  • Non-essential lights will be turn off; and

  • Candle light dinners in all the hotels’ restaurants.

To honour this global event, The Federal Kuala Lumpur and Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur have planned a number of activities:

  • Countdown to Earth Hour at 8.30pm;

  • Use Your Power to Pedal for the Planet – to light up the Goat as this is the auspicious year of the Wood Goat or the year of the Green Sheep or also known as the year of the Ram.

  • Guests are invited to write their pledge on the board provided at the front entrance of both The Federal Kuala Lumpur and Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur.

Ms Ooi Lee Ping, Director of Group Marketing, Sales & Business Development and Operations of Federal Hotels International said “Earth Hour started in Sydney, Australia in 2007, when 2.2 million individuals and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off for one hour to take a stand against climate change. It has now become the world’s largest mass participation event annually. Federal Hotels International Group of Hotels in Kuala Lumpur and Sydney namely The Federal Kuala Lumpur, Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur and The Grace Hotel Sydney have once again Join Team Earth Hour - joining millions of people around the world to switch off lights for 1 hour to raise further awareness for our planet on Saturday, 28 March 2015 at 8:30pm! It is the seventh consecutive year for The Federal Kuala Lumpur and Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur participate in this global annual event, and the eighth consecutive year for The Grace Hotel Sydney.

Last year, WWF’s Earth hour broke the records successfully mobilising hundreds of millions of people to become everyday Super Heroes for the planet. Earth Hour proved to be the movement getting stronger with everyone participating in this significant global event to Save our Planet. WWF’s Earth Hour takes on its biggest challenge this year by strengthening focus on the globe’s most stubborn environmental challenge – change climate change. Our participation hopes to remind everyone to stay united, to inspire and to join forces to improve the planet that we can do our part too to care for the earth for a sustainable living environment.”

“We would like to invite tourists, shoppers, guests to join us and Use Your Power Pedal to light up the Goat” activity at the front entrance of the hotel. Guests may pedal the 57 years old Merdeka trishaw and bicycle powered by the three small hubs of dynamo from the bike’s wheel, to light up the Goat made of recycled papers and decorated with LED lights. Guests are invited to write their pledge on the board provided. For guests who dine at our brand new Kontiki restaurant, they will pay 50% off the price of our buffet candle light dinner. Come and join us in our Earth Hour activity and fight the climate change. ” said Mr Simon Leong, General Manager of The Federal Kuala Lumpur.
