Following the roving success of the 8th Latin American Festival held on Sunday, 22nd May 2016 at bbpark, Bukit Bintang; a total of RM77,484.60 has been raised at the festival. The funds were donated to Kirtarsh Handicapped and Disabled Children’s Home. Dean of the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries in Malaysia and Venezuelan Ambassador Manuel A Guzman Hernandez said during the cheque presentation ceremony that the 8th Latin American Festival was a success. “The rich culture of Latin America gives us great satisfaction. It means even more to us when this festival of great food, dance, music, crafts and joy generated funds to help the needy. It is a worthwhile journey” said the Ambassador of Venezuelan. The cheque presentation ceremony was held on Tuesday, 28 June 2016 at the Skyroom, 15 Floor of The Federal Kuala Lumpur. Also present were Ambassadors of the nine Latin American and Caribbean countries; namely Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Columbia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela; Representative from Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Mr Mohd Fauzi, Cultural Officer of Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur; Mr Steven Chong, Area Director of Low Yat City; Mr. Simon Leong, Senior Area General Manager of Federal Hotels International; Mr. Albert Khoo, General Manager of Plaza Low Yat and bbpark. Guests and VIPs were then treated to a short photography tour to review the excitement and hype during the 8th Latin American Festival. The 8th Latin American Festival is an annual affair jointly organized by the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries (GRULAC) in Malaysia, in collaboration with Plaza Low Yat, bbpark, Federal Hotels International, The Federal Kuala Lumpur, Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur and the nine Latin American embassies namely Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. The event was supported by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur) and Latin Ladies Association of Malaysia. The 8th Latin American Festival was officially launched by Executive Director of the Planning Department of City Hall Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), Ybhg Datuk Hj Mohd Najib bin Hj Mohd together with Mr. Low Gee Teong, Managing Director of Low Yat Group, together with the Ambassadors of the nine Latin American and Caribbean Embassies in Malaysia namely Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela and the General Manager of Plaza Low Yat, Mr Albert Khoo and Mdm. Alicia Rijnberg of the Latin Ladies Association of Malaysia. The Food stalls which offered a feast for all the senses, with food from across the ten Latin American Countries. The myriad of hand made art and craft stalls give a real sense of the culture and history of each of these vibrant Latin American Countries, through their intricate tapestries, stylish leatherwork and beautiful jewellery. The magical display of vibrant colors and pulsating vibes of Latin American music and rhythms, food, dances be it Salsa, Samba or Tango, art & craft as well as the colourful Latin American beats and traditional plus contemporary performances and Capoeira have wowed the crowds. Children from the 9 Latin American Countries namely Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Columbia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela were dressed in their lovely traditional costumes of their respective Countries. We are delighted to see that this 7th Latin American Festival has once again drawn in people - locals, tourists, shoppers, diners, Latin American communities and expatriates to this hugely successful event. Traditionally, this Festival is organized every year to support Charity programmes and other institutions in need devoted to Malaysians in need.
